I still remember when I started with Nokia and I was given a brand new black laptop: a IBM T41. I didn’t like black laptops and I didn’t like IBM….
However, after more than 3 years I can honestly say that T41 was one of the best machine I have ever owned. I really mistreated my laptop, dropped it twice, but it was solid build and never let me down!
Unfortunately, the 6th of March my subconscious decided that after all these years of good service my T41 might have been thirsty so it (my subconscious again ;-) ) spilled a full cup of tea on the keyboard. T41 decided that it was unacceptable behaviour and decided to go on strike and stopped working
It was 6 o’clock so BI (not sure what it stands for but it is basically the IT department) could only log the call…I decided to go home and try some sort of resuscitation.
I got a hairdryer, screwdriver and lots of napkins and started undressing T41… 15 minutes later my voodoo spells were not working so I declared it definitely gone… for ever… I was really worried about my data since last time I had made a proper backup was 2 months ago!!!
Anyway, there is a good ending to this story. Following day, I took my laptop to BI and within 30 minutes I was up and running. They simply moved the hard drive to an old T40 and everything worked as before (except bluetooth which needed repairing)… Thank you BI.
The morale of the story: always keep a good back-up. I know, it’s old news but strangely planning for the worse it’s not something I, and many people, enjoy doing

They are Lenovo now…I heard the quality has gone down since Lenovo took over… The inconvenience is not the cost, it’s the possibility that I might lose my data
What do you have by the way?

I think Lenovo still use the same old&good build of the Thinkpad series.
My sons already removed the key G from the keyboard
I still have an old&good T41
Let’s see what laptop I get in Portugal (ex-Siemens site)…

Well, cost-saving exercises happen everywhere, so I can believe the rumours about the lower quality (even my VW Golf is worse than earlier models)…
Anyway, just did a quick search and found this: http://forum.notebookreview.com/showthread.php?s=…
So, make sure you always have a backup
Regarding your new laptop, I think you’ll get a Fujitsu Siemens computer
