Great news, I got a new job (starting from 1st of January 2008)! Having said that, the reason why I’m posting this is because each achievement (this promotion included) has a cost… On this note I wanted to share a conversation I had in the past.
Few years ago, actually several years ago, a salesperson approached me to sell life and health insurance products. The reason why I remember that event is because today I still ask myself the same questions to check if I have my priorities right.
The conversation went like this:
So, tell me what are your priorities in life.
Well, usual stuff, my health is top priority, full and
happy life with family and friends…
Do you consider cloths and style a top priority?
Of course not
How about a nice car, or a small car… Are they in your priorities?
No they are not.
So far, nothing particularly exceptional in this discussion…
Ok, now tell me how you spent your income and your time last month…
It was a stupid question you might say but it turned out that I spent more money on my car, gadgets and cloths than my health, when it was supposed to be the other way around. Time allocation was the same, they never reflected what my top priorities really are.. Of course I always tried to justify any discrepancy by saying “I cannot do otherwise” or “it’s an investment for the future”… but in the end I always realised that I was just lying to myself…
So, 2007 is almost over and I hope in the new year my activities will reflect my priorities for once… (or I’ll have to change my priorities instead
)
