Car kits alternatives

Few years ago I installed Nokia CK-7W car kit in my car and I have to say it was a good product until Nokia changed the PopPort to mini-USB port on its mobile phones. So, since I had my N95, the only way to use the Car Kit was to connect it using bluetooth. The problem is that the CK-7W car kit only supports the handsfree profile which has a very narrow bandwidth and listening to music using that profile is like listening to music over the phone. Ok, PopPort bandwidth was nowhere near FM, but it was ok for my needs. So I started searching for an alternative solution and although some A2DP with FM transmitter were already on the market (£120!!!), I could not find any cheap alternative.

BH-500So I decided to make my own alternative solution, I bought a FM radio for less than £10 from a local shop and Nokia BH-500 for about 40£ from ebay…The reason for not having just the FM radio plugged into my N95 is that I have a cradle and didn’t like to have anything hanging off my N95. Also, I started using the BH-500 as a stereo Bluetooth Headset (actually that is what is supposed to do) and for less the 50£ I thought the investment was all worth it (Well the PopPort connector was also charging my phone so I had to spend another 5£ for a new charger).
Venturi MiniHowever, today I found out from from symbian-freak about this Venturi Mini and not only it looks great but it also has some great features such as FM Transmitter with RDS/RBDS, which sends caller ID and other information to the car radio display (full feature overview here) and it’s not that expensive (£79.99)!

They also sell car charges that connects to this device and I would definitely buy the entire solution if I didn’t spent 50£ on my cheap one :-(
