Just downloaded the new Nokia PC suite 6.85.11.1 and gave it a quick try to see if there was any notable improvement… but was disappointed unfortunately.
The main reason I downloaded the beta app was because of this new drag and drop interface. I just wanted to check if Nokia made any important changes but apparently is mostly graphical changes. Have fun in finding changes from the previous version.
The problem I had:
- Installation took ages and when I restarted the pc I had a very annoying looping message that was telling me that “Nokia Windows Portable Device Driver” was being installed…Went to device manager and uninstalled my N95 from “Portable Devices”, that seems to have solved the problem.
Things I tried:
- Dropped a folder with music and got a nice message that said “unable to copy file on the phone”…
- Ok, tried a *.wpl and .m3u (audio playlist) to see if it would synchronise it with my N95 but it didn’t. This time actually it did not even complain, it just didn’t do anything
- Tried with a mp3 file and it did is job correctly, but it does not tell you where the file is going to be saved in the mobile…
I don’t use this application very much apart from the backup and synch apps but there are two things that I would like (really really small changes)…
- Clicking on the mobile phone icon starts a default action like start backup or synch (having said this, the app seems faster to load on my screen when I double click on the icon).
- Add MS windows shortcuts, so that I can collect all my app shortcuts in this window.
It was only a 5 minutes test but I don’t think it’s a must have… Give it a try if you like, you can find it at this web address (direct link from Beta labs 25.8 Mb)
