So, found out about the new Nokia Search app for my N95 from allaboutsymbian and downloaded it (from Nokia Search Webpage) hoping to find a nice search box in the active plugin…restarted my N95, nothing…
So my RAM is lower at start up and there is no active search? Why?! The application is not supposed to run in the background to work correctly because as soon as I installed I was able to run some searches… so each search is done as I type it…Why then wasting my precious RAM!!! Running the searches also uses up a lot of RAM (fair enough), on mine it’s more than 7Mb…
Anyway, what I like:
- I like the look and feel… really well done.
- I like my contact search… it searches everything (e.g. the notes field) . That’s a bonus I have to say. I like that when I open a contact it is added to my content…
- I like the calendar search as well. Pity I cannot group it by month/day/week, but it’s really good. Also, I cannot type 21 and get any entries for any 21th day of each month…pity
- Also, the application knows my location (probably based on current cell) and defined my country (in services) accordingly.. nice.
- The number of entries is around 9 for each page which is a bonus (rather than the usual 4 of my inbox).
- The application search could be really useful and match existing 3rd party applications…
- Landmarks and contacts have some additional entries in options (e.g. Show on map)
What I don’t like:
- Well, above all it uses my precious RAM for no reason. As it is at the moment, my phone is lacking content to search. I don’t keep too many text messages because it slows down the phone. I don’t keep too many images because it slows down the Images and video in the Gallery. The application also didn’t look into any of my documents created by Quickoffice (saved as doc). The phone does not generate any tag whatsoever in my images when I take a picture (anyway, I don’t think it looks in images’ tags)…. so what am I supposed to search?
- The application launcher could be useful, but it’s slow to search and it needs to many clicks… what’s the point to launch this way then..
What I would like?
- Save my searches and use it as a “live tag” for any content I save on my mobile.
- More context aware options, not just the one with my contacts and landmarks…E.g. be able to point to my text message in my inbox rather than opening the message..
- Be able to generate more content (automatically whilst using my phone and without crashing the whole operating system), but this is more a phone issue…
- Be able to set the number of items to show on each preview page.
Pity, it could be a cool application to access your mobile content in yet another way, but I had to uninstall it after few minutes…
By the way, I moved few icons around and could not find the app manager… Thank God, I was able to search it
